What is Sclerotherapy?
Sclerotherapy is a treatment for the removal of spider veins and smaller varicose veins. Veins are injected with a sterile chemical sclerant, which irritates the vessel’s lining, making it become inflamed, harden, and eventually fade away completely. Blood circulation is carried out through healthy veins located deeper within the body, so the outward appearance and sometimes pain associated with the problem veins is significantly reduced.
1) Not every vein closes 100% with one session.
2) 100% closure is required for lasting results.
3) Reticulars are larger and require more treatment as a rule.
4) Treated veins look worse for a few weeks before looking better.
5) By 4 to 6 weeks your doctor can tell if additional sclero is needed.
6) 2 to 3 sessions is average for most legs, some can take up to 10 sessions (very severe cases)
7) compression pads help alot behind the knee for a few days after reticular vein sclero
How Long Do the Results From Sclerotherapy Last?
Once a vein is closed they generally do not reopen. Usually new veins will form over year.If treatment is done appropriately, meaning that not only are the visible spider veins on the surface treated, but also that the underlying “feeding” veins or reticular veins are taken care of as well, then results should be permanent in that area. However, this does not mean that you will not develop further spider veins in the future. To the contrary, as one continues to age, you are more and more likely to develop new spider veins. The rate at which this will occur is entirely genetic, and unfortunately is worse for some individuals then for other.
