Hormone Replacement Therapy Denver
At Exquisite we offer Hormone Replacement Therapy for our clients.
LET US HELP YOU STAY YOUNG FOREVER
What are bio-identical hormones?
These are hormones that are biologically identical to the hormones your body makes. Estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone are made in the ovaries and adrenal glands in women; testosterone and estrogen come from the testes and adrenal glands in men.
These hormones have the same effect on your body as the ones you produce yourself.
It is felt by many physicians that bioidentical hormones are safer than synthetic hormones for hormone replacement.
What are hormone pellets?
Bioidentical hormone pellets are concentrated hormones, either estradiol or testosterone, pressed into a small cylinder slightly larger than a grain of rice. These pellets are placed under the skin to deliver consistent physiologic levels of hormones into the body.
Why use hormone pellets?
The pellets deliver consistent levels of hormones for three to five months in women, and four to six months in men. Studies have shown that, when compared to conventional hormone replacement, pellets are superior in the relief of menopausal symptoms such as hot flashes , mood swings, poor sleep, and concentration.
Pellets have also shown to improve bone density, libido, and muscle mass.
The pellets provide a more constant level of hormones in the blood and are very convenient when compared to creams, patches, gels, and even testosterone shots for men. The pellets only need to be inserted two to four times per year, as opposed to daily or weekly use of other forms of hormone replacement therapy.
Pellets do not increase the risk of blood clots, cardiac disease, or breast cancer as can be seen with oral or synthetic hormones.
Benefits of Bio-identical hormone replacement:
Despite what you may have heard, the BENEFITS of hormone replacement outweigh the risks for almost everyone.
Bioidentical hormone replacement involves giving your body additional hormones when your natural levels are low. Estrogen is administered in the form of Estradiol, Progesterone and testosterone if you are a female, and testosterone if you are a male.
The following is a list of benefits you will experience:
• Relief of Menopausal symptoms
• Protection against osteoporosis by raising bone density
• Decreased risk of breast and uterine cancer
• Decreased risk of colon cancer
• Increased muscle mass and lower fat percentages
• Increased energy and stamina
• Improved memory
• Improved mood; less anxiety and depression
• Improved sex drive and performance
• Enhanced erectile function and ability
• Prostate protection
• Cardio protective; improves lipid profile
How are pellets inserted?
The pellets are inserted in the upper buttocks, through a small incision, after a local anesthetic has been administered to thoroughly numb the area. The procedure only takes a few minutes in the office. You will be able to resume most of your regular daily activities within a few days.
Vigorous activity should be avoided for about 48 hours in women and five to seven days in men.
What are possible complications?
Complications are rare however, this is a minor surgical procedure and an incision is made, therefore there is always the risk of pain, bleeding, and infection as well as extraction of the pellets.
There will most likely be bruising in the area.
How long to the pellets last?
After the pellets are inserted, some people will begin to feel better within a few days but, it might take up to a week or two for some people to notice a difference. The effects of the pellets last, three to five months in women, and four to six months in men.
Your blood will be drawn a few times during the first treatment in order to monitor your hormone levels. The blood levels are checked prior to insertion, again at approximately four weeks after insertion, and once more prior to the second insertion. This will ensure that hormone levels don’t get too high and will help determine YOUR correct dosage.
Are there side effects from hormone pellet insertion?
Some people might experience mild transient side effects with estrogen replacement, such as:
• Breast tenderness
• Water weight gain
• Women with a uterus might experience vaginal bleeding
Women with a uterus must also be on progesterone along with the estrogen. This is prescribed separately. Without the progesterone, a woman could develop endometrial (uterine lining) cancer.
Side effects from the testosterone may cause acne or increased facial/body hair growth. This is fully reversible by lowering the testosterone dosage.

Sclerotherapy effectively treats varicose and spider veins. It’s often considered the treatment of choice for small varicose veins. Sclerotherapy involves injecting a solution directly into the vein. The sclerotherapy solution causes the vein to scar and collapse, forcing blood to reroute through healthier veins. The collapsed vein is reabsorbed into local tissue and eventually fades.
After sclerotherapy, treated veins tend to fade within a few weeks, although occasionally it may take up to a month to see the full results. In some instances, several sclerotherapy treatments may be needed.
Sclerotherapy is often done for:
Cosmetic purposes — to improve the appearance of varicose and spider veins
The procedure also can improve related symptoms such as:
- Night cramps
If you’re pregnant, doctors recommend waiting until after your delivery to have sclerotherapy done.
If you’re not happy with shaving, tweezing, or waxing to remove unwanted hair, laser hair removal may be an option worth considering.
Laser hair removal is one of the most commonly done cosmetic procedures in the U.S. It beams highly concentrated light into hair follicles; Pigment in the follicles absorbs the light and thus destroys the hair.
The Benefits of Laser Hair Removal include, but are not limited to the following:
- Lasers are useful for removing unwanted hair from the face, leg, arm, underarm, bikini line, and other areas.
- Lasers can selectively target dark, coarse hairs while leaving the surrounding skin undamaged.
- Each pulse of the laser takes a fraction of a second and can treat many hairs at the same time. The laser can treat an area approximately the size of a quarter every second. Small areas such as the upper lip can be treated in less than a minute, and large areas, such as the back or legs, may take up to an hour.
- Ninety percent of patients have permanent hair loss after an average of three to five sessions.
Laser hair removal is more than just ”zapping” unwanted hair. It is a medical procedure that requires training to perform and carries potential risks. Before receiving laser hair removal, you should thoroughly check the credentials of the doctor or technician performing the procedure.
If you are planning on undergoing laser hair removal, you should limit tweezing/plucking, waxing, and electrolysis for six weeks before treatment. That’s because the laser targets the hairs’ roots, which are temporarily removed by waxing or tweezing/plucking.
You should also avoid sun exposure for six weeks before and after treatment. Sun exposure makes laser hair removal less effective and makes complications after treatment more likely.
Know what to expect… the following are all things you can expect to experience:
- Just before the procedure, your hair that will be undergoing treatment will be trimmed to a few millimeters above the skin surface. The laser equipment will be adjusted according to the color, thickness, and location of your hair being treated as well as your skin color.
- Depending on the laser or light source used, you and the technician will need to wear appropriate eye protection. It will also be necessary to protect the outer layers of your skin with a cold gel or special cooling device. This will help the laser light penetrate the skin.
- Next, the technician will give a pulse of light to the treatment area and watch the area for several minutes to make sure the best settings were used and to check for bad reactions.
- When the procedure is completed, you may be given ice packs, anti-inflammatory creams or lotions, or cold water to ease any discomfort. You may schedule your next treatment four to six weeks later. You’ll get treatments until hair stops growing.
Nail fungus – sometimes referred to as fungal nail infections, or onychomycosis – is a condition that occurs when a microscopic fungus enters either a fingernail of toenail. Fungal nail infections occur more often in toenails than in fingernails and can affect anyone. For those with diabetes or weakened immune systems, fungal infections can present serious risks.
What causes nail fungus?
There are several causes of nail infections, including dermatophyte fungi (tinea unguium), yeasts such as candida albicans, and non-dermaphyte molds. Fungi develop rapidly due to many factors: humiditiy, heat, trauma, diabetes mellitus, and underling tinea pedis (or athlete’s foot). Usually, nail fungus occurs when fungus enter the nail through small trauma (cut of break) in the nail, Nail fungus can be spread from person to person, and it can be difficult to determine exactly where or how a fungal infections is acquired. Toenail infections can be more difficult to treat than fingernails because toenails grow much more slowly. In addition, the wamr and damp environment of a shoe or boot can encourage fungal growth. If the infection is visible, nails are thick and discolored; sometimes patients site pain in the toes or fingertips.
How Does the Laser Treatment Work?
When undergoing laser toenail fungus treatment, a medical professional will directly apply a focused light source onto the toe that is infected. The treatment will target the fungal infection in the toenail and the area below the toenail (call the toenail matrix). The laser treatment destroys the fungal infection; there is not too much pain involved since the nail is comprised of dead cells. Only living fungus is targeted by the laser.
In addition to the laser treatment itself, other lifestyle changes are necessary in order to prevent the growth from reforming. We prescribe these during your visit – it usually includes throwing out old shoes or applying a special spray to them, as well as a topical medication for the foot.
What kind of laser is it?
1064nm Nd:YAG (neodymium-doped yttrium aluminum garnet)
The cost and number of visits required is different for every individual based on the severity of the infection. You can come in and consult with our doctor on Friday afternoons, by appointment.
